Why Doors
What a Set of Doors Actually Does
An open fireplace with no doors is an open hole to the outside for the twenty-three hours a day it is not lit. Conditioned air goes up it all winter, and cold air comes back down it all summer.
A properly fitted door set closes that off, keeps embers in the firebox where they belong, and — on the right glass — lets you run the fire with the doors shut. It is also, for most masonry fireplaces, the single biggest visual change you can make for the money.

Built for Your Fireplace, Not a Category
Masonry, zero clearance, direct vent
Fireplace type
Stoll builds for all three, and they are not interchangeable. A masonry fireplace can take a door with high-temperature pyroceramic glass and be run closed. A factory-built zero-clearance fireplace takes a door made for that specific model. A direct vent unit takes a decorative front.
There are also arch conversion and arch add-on doors that turn a plain rectangular opening into an arched one without touching the masonry.

Inside fit or overlap fit
How it mounts
Overlap fit sits on the face of the fireplace and covers the edges of the opening. It hides masonry that is not perfectly square — which, on a real fireplace, is most of them. It clamps to the lintel at the top and pressures against the sides at the bottom.
Inside fit sits inside the opening, flush, for a cleaner built-in look. It locks in with pressure screws pushing outward against the interior walls. It wants a square, accurate opening, so we measure carefully before we commit to it.

Measure Once, Order Once
Measure
Twelve measurements off the opening — widths front and rear, heights, depth, hearth extension and the flat face around the opening. Our worksheet asks for all of them.
Choose
Style, fit, finish, glass and screen. Samples and finish cards are on the floor at the showroom.
Build
It goes to the factory as a one-off in your dimensions. Standard sizes are quicker; custom takes longer and is worth it.
Fit
We install it, square it, set the pressure and check the operation. A door that binds is a door that gets left open.
